What Songs Get Cam Fitzpatrick Stoked to Ride - Soundcheck

Cam FitzPatrick is a name that you should file away and remember. The 22 year-old snowboarder and Jackson Hole native can be seen in the most recent episode of TGR's Almost Live. FitzPatrick more than holds his own alongside Mark Carter and Bryan Iguchi as he rips some impressive lines in the Jackson Hole backcountry. I got the chance to catch up with Cam to ask him about his relationship with snowboarding and music in this most recent edition of Soundcheck.

What is your relationship with riding and music?

Lately I have just been riding with less music, but when I start a session on a big jump or I am about to ride a big line I use it to calm the nerves. It is something I like to use when filming to get me in the zone and space everything out around me.

Recently I have been shooting on some pretty massive jumps. I like to listen to something along the lines of Odesza, it gets the vibes going and relaxes me. It creates an inspirational kind of feeling. For me it is like the music you hear in Art of Flight, it just gets me so stoked to hit something.

Do you listen to different types of music for different terrain?

When I am just riding the resort I really like to just cruise around while listening to rap and hip hop. Days at the resort are more for me and I get to ride with my friends. I think that genre has a certain flow to it, you can feel pretty gangster if you want. It is a definitely a certain vibe.

What have you been listening to lately?

Recently I have been listening to the song Young Blood by The Naked & Famous, which is from the Jackson segment of Art of Flight. It is super old and I am pretty sure people are super burned out from it, but I don't really care. I listened to that song the other day on repeat and hands down had one of the best days of snowboarding in my life.

Do you play any instruments? How does that affect your relationship with music?

I play guitar and drums so I end up not listening to lyrics very much. I love all this instrumental music. I love the way the artist portrays the music through sounds rather than lyrics. A lot of songs have lyrics, but I always tend to block them out. I just like to focus on the sound and the way makes it me feel.
